Papers of Francis Wood include press releases, correspondence, memoranda and clippings concerning a taxpayer suit against the Town of North Hempstead for failure to enforce ordinances governing the operation of sandpits near Port Washington, and a series of articles by Wood printed in NEWSDAY, 1957, about the effect of sandpit excavation on Long Island. Correspondents include Charles Belous, attorney for the taxpayer suit. Papers of Jean Wood include letters, photographs, speeches, programs, posters, press releases, and clippings concerning civil rights for blacks, with some later material on women's rights. There is material on "Art and Soul" festivals held in Port Washington, 1969-1971; and letters from Pat McGauley, a civil rights worker in Mississippi, including a mimeograph typescript "Incidents in Laurel, Miss. since Sept. 1964."
